"Attending spinal clinic for first time"

About: Hospital Of St Cross / Trauma and orthopaedics

I attended rugby hospital 30/06/2018 . Waited a long time for this appointment to be let down.

I sat in terrible pain in corridor. The nurses themselves was fabulous and moved me to a room with air conditioning as I felt faint.

The consultant I seen was absolutely shocking. He didn’t introduce himself. Could see I was in a lot of pain. He wouldn’t let me explain myself and was very abrupt with me.. he made me stand without my crutches. He took a few seconds to examine me with my clothes on by just sticking his finger on my coccyx..then just said go for X-ray.

I felt so uncomfortable I didn’t go for X-ray I left the hospital. I felt he had no compassion. He didn’t treat me with dignity and respect. I went home straight to bed and none the wiser . I am really suffering but looks like I wii have to now go through my gp all again to get referred to someone more sympathetic 😫😫

Thank you for sharing your feedback on NHS Choices, and on Care Opinion, about your appointment at the Hospital of St Cross. I was very disappointed to hear about your experience, and would like to apologise for the attitude and behaviour of the consultant you saw, as this is not the standard of care that we aim to provide.

I will pass on your comments to the team that manages our Orthopaedics service at St Cross.

However, I would also urge you to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team on feedback@uhcw.nhs.uk or on 0800 028 4203 so they can look into your concerns in more detail.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, we appreciate all comments both positive and negative, as it helps us to better understand our patients’ needs and to continually improve.
