"Kingfisher 14-15/05/2018"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

Following radical Prostatectomy I was taken to Kingfisher ward at around 6.00pm. The first few hours I was cared for in a considerate and caring fashion. I was next to a patient who was also in recovery from a kidney removal.

Around 8.30pm a patient was moved from another ward and our care diminished rapidly. He was not post op, he was very vocal and able to make his demands known from the first minute.

He disrupted, disrespected and made our stay a living hell following major surgery. We got our 1 hour checks but little else. The night staff did there best but he should have been moved to safeguard the patients who were in more need. He kept us all awake ALL night. He could have been sedated.

This continued through the following morning until around mid afternoon.

I was not given breakfast , I was told I was nil by mouth which was untrue. When this was cleared up I was told it was too late for even a slice of toast. I had to wait iuntil 1 pm. My saline was removed and I was told to drink water ‘The day staff completely neglected me and were unable to cope with the patients demands let alone the post op patients !!

We left asap although I was uneasy about it we felt I had to.

Had no guidance on anything when I left. A bag with codeine for pain relief, a print out. Some dvt socks that don’t fit because the nurse ‘knew’ my size!! She didn’t. At least Pre op measured my legs.

It was a shambles. Sorry
