"My child's experience"

About: Accident & Emergency / Children's A&E Crosshouse Hospital / Ear, Nose & Throat Crosshouse Hospital / Paediatrics

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was admitted to the ENT ward at Crosshouse hospital via A&E where he had been sent from our GP surgery with a Quincy throat. He had treatment on the ward and was then admitted to the paediatric ward where he stayed overnight.

All the staff we came into contact with managed to put my son at ease as he was in pain and very anxious having never been in hospital before.

He was discharged the following day and my only criticism of this experience was the fact that even though the ENT staff allowed the discharge at 11.30am we had to wait until 2.30pm for his medication to arrive from pharmacy.

Surely there must be a more efficient way of dealing with this as I'm sure in the current NHS climate the bed he was occupying would be required for someone else?

Many thanks again for the care my son received.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Holly hops,

Thank you for taking time to share this with us. it is always worrying when a wee one is ill and in hospital. I will be very happy to pass your gratitude to the team, I am sure they will appreciate such nice feedback.

Pharmacy

You are quite right that ideally there would be no waiting for your medication. Having had this observation before, I understand that a wait for medication at discharge can be caused by various different things. If you would like to understand why this was the case for you and your child, I can find that out for you. Please call me on 01563 826222 or email me on Eunice.goodwin@aapct.scot.nhs.uk.

In the meantime, I will also pass this to the head of Pharmacy for their consideration.

I hope your child is now running around and driving you mad, as children do when they return to health.

Best wishes,

Eunice
