"Emergency for broken ankle"

About: Leeds General Infirmary / Accident and emergency Leeds General Infirmary / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

While delivering leaflets for the Labour Party on Friday, I slipped on some moss covered stone steps and broke my ankle. Fortunately my wife was with me and the Paramedic was soon on the scene and got me speedily to the LGI. At first to minor injuries but after xray it became apparent that the Orthopaedic team should become involved as the break or multiple break was complicated. After a new plaster had been applied I was taken to Ward 35. The next day I was in theatre having an External fix put around my ankle to hold the bones in place. Then came the wait while the inevitable swelling went down. It was during this time that I experienced the superb nursing care that the staff there provide, day after day. I am going to mention some names but this does not preclude any of the great staff there from nurses, health care assistants, the catering staff and the very assiduous cleaning staff. Of the many staff I encountered the one I remember were: - Megan (x2), Charlotte, Julie Rebecca, Milly, Runa but so many others, they gave us all care, kindness and compassion, and not always under the easiest of circumstances. Then of course, there was the incredibly skilled surgical staff and ward doctors, I could not have been in better hands. So, a million thanks to Leeds General Infirmary and the NHS.
