"Told my dad wad putting work before his health"

About: Royal Alexandra Hospital (Paisley)

(as a relative),

Absolutely appalled at the way in which both myself and another family member were spoken to by the Consultants Secretary. Rude, dismissive and downright disrespectful. My mum contacted the staff member to rearrange an appointment and was refused this. This made my mum very upset and she was in tears. I then contacted the same member of staff who told me this was ridiculous that I had called as they had already spent a lot of time on this.

One of her final statements to me was that they couldn't believe my dad was putting his work before his health. During the same conversation, I also heard things such as; I need to appreciate these appointments are like gold dust, and the Dr doesn’t have time to be phoning just anybody.

Dear Relative

I am really disappointed to read your post, this is certainly not how I would expect such a request to be handled. It must have been extremely distressing for both yourself and your mum.

If you would email me at Marie.Farrell@ggc.scot.nhs.uk and provide your dads details I will look into your complaint.

Pleasd accept my apologies for any upset caused.

Dear relative

Thank you for your feedback and for taking the time to speak with our Business Manager earlier this week. I would like to add my own sincere apologies for the upset caused by the manner in which you and your mother were spoken to by a member of our admin team. We have shared your comments with the staff member involved and reminded her of the need to speak to patients and relatives in a compassionate, sensitive manner. I agree with your view that the behaviour you described is not acceptable and I very much regret that your impression of our service is such a poor one.

Should you have any further concerns in relation to your father’s care, please do not hesitate to contact our Business Manager, Linda Russell on 0141 314 6197.

Regards
