"Made to feel that I shouldn't be asking for help."

My GP referral for possible bi-polar disorder. During my first appointment with the access team it was ok i was treated with respect and they did there best to get to know about my problems. I ended up seeing a psychiatrist, on been diagnosed an been discharged with medication i was told come back if they don't work.

I ended up coming back when i was really struggling the year after only to be treated badly by the same person from the  access team who seemed to think i was wasting time and the psychiatrist probably wouldn't want to see me. Baring in mind they told me to come back and it was the first time i was seeking mental health care ever. The psychiatrist did see me and meds were changed but i was made to feel like a time waster and that i wasn't "ill" enough in thier eyes.

Also one of the reception staff is seriously lacking manners. There are two occasions I have been upset by their poor attitude, and never had any issues with the other staff there. 

it does need to change as it is really distressing when your ill and made to feel that you shouldn't be asking for help.

Please could you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) team as the central point of contact on 0161 716 3178. Our PALS can give more advice and raise these issues on your behalf, through negotiating prompt solutions to problems and helping bring about changes in the way that services are developed. They can also give more information about the complaints process to raise these concerns further, should you wish to.
