I was admitted by ambulance recently to ward a23 qmc with postnatal bleeding and was sent home on Sunday morni g and was told I had a period by the consultant- this was no period I was blue lighted in on the Monday after I fell unconsious after a severe bleed I was then again sent home on the Tuesday even tho my blood levels were extremely low and was told by numerous other junior doctors I needed a blood transfusion to which the same consultant refused so I was sent home with antibiotics for an infection and meds to stop bleeding even tho I had a scan which showed placenta left in the uterus. again said consultant said was not an issue, I end up sent by my own doctor on the weds bk to hospital as I had a high heart rate and felt very ill.
eventually the same consultant said yes to transfusion but still did not budge on the scan result so was sent home again on the sat with same meds and diagnosis, I went bk in for a follow up appointment on tuesday. thanks to a lovely and dedicated sister during my visit I was 're scanned which showed up the same result so no so called infection or period at all it was all due to the matter left in my uterus.
I had a seperate consultant this time who took me straight for surgery to remove this and I was looked after post opp a nurse who was fantastic and lovely keeping me calm and generally a great nurse all round to everyone in her care.
I know have anxiety due to my experience and keep panicking to which I know have to have medication for. This could have all been avoided had the first consultant had not continually fobbed me off and listened. Their disagreement with the scan was that if there was left over placenta a pregnancy test would be positive but my case has rumbled that theory, think out of the box next time said consultant.
