My experience at the Sussex Eye Hospital was entirely positive. YEs, I have had to wait a good few months for the appointment but all my contacts including the telephonists , receptionists, and every nurse and porter were kind, respectful to me as a patient, and careful to the last possible detail. Every consideration of the patient is given. Proof of this is that a calming volunteer, sat next to me throughout the surgery just holding my hand - and what an incredible fear-reducing human contact that was. At no point, in fact, was I scared or nervous at all about having my cataract removed. I cannot thank my surgeon enough for his wonderful professional skills, kindness and humour. His team checked and re-checked every part of my treatment perfectly, over and over, to ensure everything was correct.
Patients are treated as sentient individuals and never as sausages going through the system.
I was given full advice about what to do when at home and received a follow up phone call the next day from a member of staff, who had taken care of me the day before. Wonderful. I write this to assure any future patient that the cataract surgery is not a nerve wracking procedure at all. You just need to relax, trust the wonderful team and 'go with the flow;. The surgery, in my case, was over quickly.
I am very very grateful for all of this.I am shocked at the negative comments placed on this site. The astounding point for me was removing the eye covering the next morning. I can now see miraculously well and I am enjoying the shock pleasure of seeing everything in sharp focus, and clear colours- maybe better than I ever have and I am 76! What a great joy- and I really could not be more grateful. Thank you very much!
"Excellent treament!"
