"I felt they were not interested in my condition"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department

(as the patient),

I suffer from severe migraines and have done for several years now. Since January my migraines have been getting worse as the days go on. I went to monklands hospital and was needing relief from this pain. I was see by a doctor who when I first went in asked what the problem was. I explained my situation and they offered pain relief which was oral morphine, aspirin and paracetamol which I had already explained would not work. The Doctor continued to tell me to wait a few hours in a& e to see if this would work. When they came back about 1 hour later they asked me what I would like to do. I couldn’t even responded, I am not a doctor and do not know what could help. I continued to tell them the pain was excruciating. I felt they were not interested in in my condition or were in anyway helpful.

Dear Migraine sufferer

I'm really sorry to hear of the pain that you're experiencing. I'm sure it must be incredibly difficult, particularly if this pain continues despite pain relief.

In order to look into your recent Emergency Department attendance we require a little more information. If you would like us to do this, can you please contact our patient affairs team in the first instance by calling 01236 713065 or e-mailing lesley.mallon@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk

Many thanks

Fraser McJannett
