"Inguinal Hernia Repair"

About: Ridgeway Hospital

It was Wednesday and I was to see the consultant the following Tuesday for a review appointment when I received a call asking if I was available that Friday for the operation. I rushed in to be received by a very friendly nursing team who went through the pre-op checks with me – all very efficient. I attended the hospital at 07:30 on the Friday and was in my private room within 30 minutes. The nurses, anaesthetist and surgeon made regular checks until I was taken down at 10:30 for the operation. All the staff were cool, calm and collected and I felt in very safe hands. I awoke in recovery and was checked regularly until being taken back to my room by 12:30. The monitoring continued and I was eventually sent home at 20:00 (I have a history of DVT so they kept me in for a little bit longer than normal) after they seemed happy that I had co-codamol at home for pain relief. The only issue I encountered was that co-codamol was NOT suitable for the pain after the anaesthetic wore off: The mesh pain is quite considerable and I eventually required Tephine (Buprenorphine) to cope with the uncomfortable shearing feeling.
