"Clinical Oncology Services - Brachytherapy &..."

About: Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Having received a diagnosis of prostate cancer, I was referred, at my request, to the Yorkshire Cancer Centre at the Bexley Wing of St James Hospital, Leeds.

My initial OPD appointment was in December 2017, I found the clinic to be a calm supportive environment and running on time. Anxious patients don't cope well with waiting too long before consultation. I feel that the first contact was well run and efficient/supportive and giving a good impression of the service.

The next step was to receive Brachytherapy in early January 2018. The Operating Theatre unit was clean well organised and the staff were caring, supportive, friendly, attentive and professional.

This treatment was followed in February 2018 by External Beam Radiotherapy. The staff in the department were again professional and had time for me as a person not just another patient. The organisation was incredible as machinery break downs did not effect the timings of my treatment even when I was switched to an alternative machine in the department.

At the end of my treatment in March 2018, it was an honour to be shown around their new CT Scanner/Therapy Unit as I had a long career in the NHS as a Facilities & Site Services Manage/Director.

To end my treatment journey I was again seen in the OPD Clinic and given very positive news on my treatment/condition. I am happy to say that I have now been discharged back to my GP.

In conclusion this is a fantastic service and a great asset to St James's obviously capable of attracting exceptional staff. I cannot recommend highly enough the treatments I received or the staff involved with this and would be more than happy to promote these services and treatment at any patient forums/events.

Finally, I want to say a very big thank you to all the staff.

I was very pleased to read you wonderful comments regarding the treatment you received at St James's Hospital.

I have taken the liberty of sharing your words of support and encouragement with the relevant departments involved in your care and asked that this is shared with all the teams. I know that all the staff will be delighted to know they delivered the care and service that met all your needs and expectations.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write to us and I hope that you continue to make a good recovery.

With kindest regards

Rosie
