"Thank you"

About: Westgate Surgery

Thank you for your response to my review where I reported a problem my husband had getting through to the telephone team in Leeds and then also was told that there were no appointments that morning, Friday 13 April even though there were no other patients in the surgery at 8 a.m and 2 doctors were seen going to their consulting rooms. I don't know though what time surgery begins .He was, after some discussion, given an appointment later that day which meant he had to make a second trip to the surgery that day.

I would however like to add that he saw another doctor this week who was very attentive, came out of his room to collect my husband from the waiting area which was appreciated and gave him a very thorough M.O.T involving sounding his chest, taking his bp and checking his oxygen levels. He booked him in to have blood tests and ecg with a practice nurse next week and sent him up to the hospital to have a chest xray. As he is a long time survivor of multiple myeloma and has a compromised immune system, this was much appreciated as the persistent cough he has had for many weeks has been very worrying and exhausting for us both. He has an appointment to see the same gp next week for the results which provides a continuity of care which we feel is important to us. So we would like to thank that gp for his attentiveness and care and attention. Thank you for offering me an opportunity to come in and meet a member of staff and share my concerns with her. Unfortunately I have recently left the practice to register at another surgery in the vicinity so it would not be appropriate. Maybe my husband may take up the offer when he is feeling a little better. If as One Medical says, the problems and long waits with the appointment system and better access to appointments, emergency and otherwise, will be ironed out and improvements made, I feel that all patients will feel satisfied and relieved. It is too late for me as I felt I had no choice but to move from a surgery where I have been a patient for the last 34 years Hopefully though, things will start to improve for the patients who have remained and I think that will make everyone a lot happier, staff and patients alike. I really hope and pray so for everyones sake..
