"No referrals"

About: Stepping Hill Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

Left D1 after surgery, I went home with a catheter for which they failed to refer me to a district nurse, failed to provide me with adequate supplies or show me how to manage my catheter myself.

Failed to make any follow up appointments with my consultant too and I didn’t know where to go for support, eventually after a lot of ringing around I was able to sort out the appointments myself!

I believe that D1 should have done all this on discharge but didn’t.

Also wasn’t going to give me my medication to come home with even though I had taken them into hospital with me and had no more at home.

Most staff were really nice and worked hard to ensure that they met the needs of their patients but some were not nice at all, one nurse shouted at me unnecessarily and reduced me to tears.

Not a good experience on this ward, not much confidence in them at all, I found their discharge procedures appalling and in my opinion need reviewing.
