"Blood test"

About: University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust

I came into the clinic this morning at around 8.45am, I walked into the blood room, where 2 phlebotomists were chatting to another patient, no one turned to see who walked in I wasn’t acknowledged at all, they proceeded to carry on chatting so I took a seat, still no acknowledgement, the phlebotomist who took my blood turned round never spoke and just took my papers off me, still talking to the others, then she turned never smiled, no good morning, she put the Tourniquet round my arm and said when was the last time you ate, I answered and that was that, she put the needle in and still carried on her conversation with the others, she then put the cotton wool on the vein and taped in and turned her back to carry on talking.

I had to say ‘ am I done now’ to which she answered ‘yes’ .

I’m very disappointed in how I was treated, there was no patient compassion!! No people skills!!! Such a rude lady!! I did mention it to the receptionist whom was sorry and said there was a form I could fill in, but I said no I was running late!! An overall very bad experience, these phlebotomists need a course on compassion and empathy if they are dealing with patients on a daily basis.

Our Trust does not employ these phlebotomists.

They are employed by Royal Derby Hospital so please could you re-direct the comment to Royal Derby Hospital.
