"High risk pregnancy"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Maternity

(as the patient),

After finally finishing my degree, I found out I was pregnant. I was filled with many mixed emotions, worried about my future career, if I was ready, yet happiness as my partner and I have always wanted children in the future, it just happened to be a lot earlier than expected.

During the early stages of my pregnancy I found out I have high blood pressure resulting in my pregnancy becoming high risk. A term which of course made me worry. One thing I would suggest is attending a high risk antenatal class at your hospital, it really helps ease your mind by hearing other women's stories, especially those who have been induced before and that being high risk doesn't mean you are guaranteed to have a risk you will just will be monitored more.

Throughout my pregnancy my blood pressure and heart rate continued to be high until the end and I ended up being induced at 39 weeks and had a emergency c section, which is not painful at all during the operation it just hurts afterwards. Overall my experience at the Oldham hospital was great the staff were very supportive, attentive and made me feel at ease.

Thank you for taking the time to share your pregnancy and birth experience. It can be worrying when you are told your pregnancy is high risk, especially if there are things that you don't understand. However, I am very pleased that you attended our complex needs pregnancy class. These classes were developed as a result of direct feedback from women who said it was something that they wanted. It sounds from what you have written that you felt well informed and put at ease after you attended which is also good to hear. I hope that you are recovering well following your C-section and enjoying your new baby.

Once again thank you for your feedback.
