"Pay to see your test results"

About: The Healthcare Centre

Great healthcare staff in my experience so far.

Practice nurse and healthcare assistant excellent.

However, apart from one receptionist who was really proactive and helpful the two others I've come across have been simply patronising, unhelpful and deliberately awkward.

It's bad enough suffering from high BP due to the white coat effect when visiting the surgery but receptionist adding to it isn't helpful.

The surgery charges £1 per sheet to press print on their computers to give you your own blood test results; but they won't let you have them by emis either. So, you have no choice but to pay.

Is it a scam to raise money? Perhaps or perhaps not....so asked to speak to practice manager, told not available. Asked for contact email, told no email even for general enquiry - understand about patient sensitive data. I was told that it had to be pen and paper in writing because that's what the practice manager wants.

Earlier in the week, I asked for a subject level access under DPA of my patient file. I was given an emis access form! The ICO would be interested in the level of training of reception staff.

Please do not spoil the great work of healthcare professionals at your surgery through poor admin practices.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review regarding Dr C M Wilson & Partners – The Healthcare Centre of which I acknowledge receipt.

We appreciate the kind comments regarding the Healthcare Professionals, Practice Nurses and Healthcare Assistants.

Apologies you feel that the reception team are deliberately awkward, this is not their intention, they are there to assist all patients whilst following practice protocols. I do feel that your personal comments regarding the reception team members a little unfair on a public website. With regards to access to your medical records, if you require free access to view your medical record you can register with Patient Access (EMIS) - a form was given to you for this so I am not clear what you mean when you state that we would not give you this information by EMIS.

The £1.00 charge is an administration charge for a paper copy and one that all patients are notified of prior to providing the copy.

New General Data Protection Regulations are coming in to force in May which sees general practice absorbing the cost of such copies. For your information, dealing with Solicitors requests for copy medical records is something that comes at quite a significant cost to the practice, financially and in terms of staff time. Unfortunately I am not available all day every day to communicate with patients as I have other commitments.

I request that things are put in writing as I am unable to respond to patient identifiable information via a non-secure method such as email.

A subject access request is a simple written request by the patient or someone on behalf of the patient for information that you are entitled to under the Data Protection Act. We respond to all requests within the appropriate timescales. The EMIS access form that was given to you would enable you access to your medical record in a shorter time frame than that so I fail to see why you feel the requirement to refer to notifying the Information Commissioners Office when you have not been refused access to your medical record at any point. The practice policies and protocols the staff adhere to are put in place by the GP Partners and management team at the practice. I will not be responding further on a public forum and suggest that should you wish to make a formal complaint regarding this matter that you put it in writing so we are given the opportunity to respond in an appropriate manner.

Once again, thank you for the review and apologies you feel that we have not met your expectations on this occasion.

Jane Goulding – Practice Director.
