"We used to be able to have pepsi max any time."

About: Womens Medium Secure (Northampton) / Stowe

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I have been in St Andrew's 7-8 years and on Stowe Ward for just over 2 years.

I have seen myself get better and will be going to low secure in the next few months. I would recommend St Andrew's as a hospital.

I think we should be allowed to have Pepsi Max when we want to as it is sugar free. We used to have it. Now we can only have it once a day at 11am. I would like it at snack times as well at 4pm and 8pm.

We cannot have cups of tea on the ward at the moment - only in the dining room.

Thanks for adding your story to Care Opinion and I am really pleased to hear that you have seen yourself get better and that you will be moving onto a lower level of security soon.

In relation to your comments about Pepsi Max, I have spoken to your Nurse Manager who informs me that no changes have been made to access to drinks recently. The time, I understand, was brought in in conjunction with the time snacks were distributed, however, patients are now responsible for their own snacks.

Fizzy drinks bottles and their lids, however, are not permitted on the ward due to the risk it poses to a number of patients so this means that staff have to monitor the drinks going out. I am informed that Patients do not have to wait until 11 am to have their drinks and you can ask at any point, any patients utilising ground leave can also go to Tompkins and get a drink there too.

Hot drinks are permitted in the lounge area on the ward, I understand that is something that was brought up in the community meeting recently and patients discussed that they were still able to do so.

If you are experiencing any issues with any of the above I would always encourage you to discuss this with your Care Coordinator, The Clinical Nurse Leaders of the ward or the Nurse Manager.
