"Neutropaenic sepsis"

About: Conquest Hospital / Accident and emergency

My husband was recently in the Conquest for 8 days. He is a chemotherapy patient and a sudden high temperature involved a hurried visit to A&E. The speed of care that was given was fantastic, he was given IV antibiotics straight away and bloods taken. I can't praise the care and attention he had from the staff in A&E and AAU enough. He was diagnosed with neutropaenic sepsis caused by a flu virus that hadn't been included in the vaccine. The following day he was very poorly but improved and was moved to an isolation room on James ward.

Again I cannot fault the medical and nursing care he had, everyone was so kind. It is a shame the room he was in had no outside view, just a courtyard and a tree with ivy growing up it and what looked like a portacabin. In the room there was no TV or even a radio, luckily he amused himself with puzzles and reading. Also there was no plug for the sink so washing was not easy. However I am extremely grateful for the care he had in all three areas. Thank you. I also give praise for the staff on Judy Beard Unit where he is receiving chemotherapy, they are superb!
