"Post op care following upper GI procedure"

About: Royal Derby Hospital / General surgery

I had upper GI surgery last August. I was very happy about the way the surgery went. My surgeon was great ... but he left the hospital shortly after my op. Since then my post op care has been awful. I should have had a 6 week post op appointment but had to chase this up, found that no arrangements had been made for a doctor to see the patients of the surgeon that left, had to contact PALS as I was getting nowhere and even though I had a lot of post op problems I still couldn't get seen until 9 weeks post op. I was sent for a barium swallow which was done quickly but then I had to wait again for ages to see the surgeon who had taken over my care. When I did see him he was running late in clinic, rushed the appointment, didn't seem to listen to anything I said but sent me for endoscopy. This again was done quickly and the team in Endoscopy have been brilliant every time I've attended there. However the doctor who did the procedure didn't do what my consultant had planned therefore nothing's been done to help my symptoms and I'm still in pain every day. I received no follow up appointment so have had to chase that, still heard nothing so rang again only to be told I have to wait another 2 months for the next free slot. So since August I have got nowhere with getting further treatment for my symptoms. Endoscopy and X-ray have been great with early appointments but Surgery have really let me down.
