"Lack of coordination and attention to detail"

About: Hexham General Hospital Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

(as a service user),

I was admitted over night to Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital from the Urgent Care Centre at Hexham General.  I had an ECG done at the UCC but this was not reviewed at NSECH until the following morning and only after I had mentioned it. A further ECG was then done.  Both showed an anomaly.  I also mentioned that I had had a 24 hour heart trace done recently at another Northumbria Trust hospital.  I was told the results could not be viewed as these were not routinely put ‘on the system’. I had a CT scan and MRI to rule out a stroke and in all everything took 27 hours for me to be told to see my GP for follow up.

While the care at each venue was good there was a lot of the waiting around which seemed to be due to a lack of communication and coordination  between the UCC and NSECH - it felt everything was done twice by different “silos” not  parts of one system trusting each other’s work

Dear Lucyjordan37,

My sincere apologies for the inconsistency in your care, I imagine it must have been quite frustrating having to go through the motions twice. I am pleased that the care you received was good but just sorry that this was brought down by the waiting around. I will share this with the teams today to reflect on and aim to prevent similar experiences from happening in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to share your review.

Kind regards,

Jan
