"Repeat Prescriptions"

About: The Grange Surgery

On a number of occasions repeat paper prescriptions have been lost with no reason being given.

Unwillingness on the part of some GP's and duty doctors to sign some repeat prescriptions which are due in a day or two, and also these repeats are taking too long to reach the designated pharmacy for dispensing.

A recent example is my wife requesting a controlled drug slightly early due to a broken leg which unfortunately was not taken into account.

We are sorry to hear that you have experienced difficulty when requesting repeat prescriptions.

There is a mechanism for requesting prescriptions online which removes the need for paper requests and we would be happy to explain it to you further.

Rest assured our GPs would not decline to sign prescriptions unless there was a legitimate clinical reason for doing so, and this would be discussed with the patient.

When signed, prescriptions can either be collected or sent electronically to the pharmacy at the point of signing.

Thereafter the turnaround is dependent upon the pharmacy.

We would be happy to discus the prescription process with you if would care to get in touch directly.

Requests that are sent in early are acted upon when the meds are due to be next issued.

Unfortunately there is no way of the prescribing team knowing that a patient has a broken leg unless it is written on the request, which I appreciate could be frustrating.

Please do get in touch se we can discuss this further.
