My mum has been in hospital since the mid December following a leg break after a fall. She was just managing to walk again when she had a cardiac arrest. Thankfully the excellent care she received from the staff at Wishaw saved her life and I will be forever grateful for their efforts.
However, it is now April and my mum is still in hospital, taking up a bed. Mentally there is nothing wrong with her, she is simply there for rehabilitation and physio to enable her to walk again. Unfortunately, the access to physio is very poor. She gets approximately 10 minutes physio per day, making 50 minutes on a good week. No physio available at the weekend (or during holidays). Considering she is taking up a bed that could be put to better use, the standard of rehabilitation process leaves a lot to be desired. The progress she is making is incredibly slow, which is only to be expected with the token physio she is given. Surely it is a false economy to try to save money be employing fewer physios, because it ultimately means that patients are in hospital longer and taking up more beds and resources
