"Poor breastfeeding advice"

About: Garston Walk-in Centre

(as the patient),

I was told by the doctor to stop breastfeeding my 15 month old baby as he was "old enough now", I should just give him formula and the medication they were prescribing wasn't suitable to take while breastfeeding. Not only was the doctor wrong about this, the medication apparently is suitable and used by many pregnant or breastfeeding women, but I believe my doctor is going against WHO and NHS guidelines which state breastfeeding is advisable at least during the first two years of life and beyond it still has health benefits. To advise the use of formula is also wrong. I think that the doctor could have potentially completely traumatised my son and I by making us stop feeding when neither was ready, based on wrong information and ignorance regarding breastfeeding, they could have swept aside what is a very important aspect of our relationship, if I had followed their advice and not thought for myself and attempted to seek further advice.
