"Good experience"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary / Ophthalmology

I visited the emergency eye dept yesterday after feeling like I had a sharp foreign body in it. On arrival the screen said 2.5 hour wait so made myself comfortable. After about an hour I was seen & checked over, thankfully eye just scratched so left with antibiotic gel. The staff were very good. The problem?? Whilst waiting I was amongst people who had been sitting for over 2.5 hours & had no info on what was happening . I’m sure they couldn’t of been happy to see me in & out in an hour!!!! I guess it depends on the severity of your problem & which Doctor they need you to be seen by.

Thank you for taking the time to give feedback regarding your visit to the Ophthalmology Emergency Eye department at the RVI. We are pleased to hear that you received a good service from the department and will be sure to share your feedback with all the staff. We would like to reassure you that some patients are in the eye emergency department longer than others as the Department has a triage system in place to identify the severity of the medical condition and determine which grade of staff the patient needs to be seen by. Staff try to reassure patients, keeping them informed of waiting times and are on hand to answer any queries patients may have regarding the system.
