"Make me feel like a nuisance"

About: Great Barford Surgery

I see different Doctors all the time the only time I have received 'cures' is when I have seen a temporary Dr at the surgery. Spent nearly 30 years on tablets before I got to hospital to have my gall bladder removed and so many years in pain with my hip before getting an x ray to prove I required surgery. I get asked if I think I should have antibiotics ???? I am rarely examined for any problems and I feel rushed everytime I visit. I would like to say however that the Nurses are totally different and I always get expert and wonderful service from them. I do not find the place to be that clean and it certainly is shabby and too small. I live in Gt Barford and have done most of my life so feel I need to stay with this practise.

Hello - I do appreciate you want to remain anonymous so I can only really respond to the general comments about the surgery.

Yes we are cramped, the building is too small and we are looking less than pristine, we need more space and a revamp.

We do have cleaners that come in every day to make sure we are clean.

The current partners have been here since 2009, we have two further GP's that each work one day per week every week, wherever we can we get annual leave covered by the existing team, then we go to our regular locums and only when all else has failed do we look toward locum agencies (and even then we try to get GP's that have worked with us before) I'm sorry you feel you see a different GP every time, we certainly try hard to keep familiar faces.

The good news is you do have access to different GP's and second opinions or can choose to ask for a GP by name to ensure you see the same GP - there might be a longer wait for a named GP but the choice would be yours. There is no NHS funding we can access to improve the current premises, we are trying very hard to be able to take advantage of the land that has been set aside for the building of a new health centre in Great Barford - however even finding out how we can build on land not owned by us is proving very challenging, NHS Estates have so far been unable to help despite the efforts of your local parish counsellors.

We know the priority for NHS investment is not for small village practices and that the focus is on NHS Hubs or Primary Care Homes with registered populations of between 30,000 & 50,000.

With regard to your own negative experiences with numerous GP's seen at the surgery - I would be really happy to look through your notes with you - its really important that if you feel something has not gone well that I have the chance to investigate and respond.
