About: Horton General Hospital / Accident and emergency

After contacting 111 and being told they would send an ambulance but there may be a wait we opted to take our 20 month old ourselves to the Horton with breathing difficulties. After seeing a lovely nurse who advised he needed a nebuliser we were dumped for over an hour in a corridor watching our child decline and being totally ignored. By the time the cocky dr came to ask me why I’d bothered dragging my family out in the snow when my child was clearly fine I’d lost the plot. Once he realised I wasn’t an idiot and he couldn’t dismiss my concerns he finally agreed to a nebuliser and also prescribed steroid tablets. What baby is able to swallow tablets? The a&e dept here is a total shambles. This is the third time my son has been admitted into hospital with the same issues. The first two at the jr which is a totally different and professional experience. We were finally taken to the children’s ward at 6:30pm. The children’s ward is great but your a&e drs need to wind their necks in and learn some bedside manners. I can totally see why they are trying to close this hospital.
