"Complete recovery assured with notably high..."

About: Ormskirk & District General Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

Without any reservation whatsoever, the dedication of nursing Staff at Ormskirk & District General Hospital stands as a testament to the high levels of patient care seen each day as all the countless Staff members attend to their varied duties and responsibilities with cheerful disposition.

It is quite unique, but nevertheless true that the need to have a total hip replacement operation undoubtedly creates dread and fear in some patients, however there is absolutely no cause for such trepidation since you are in extremely safe hands with the highly skilled Anaesthetists and surgeons who perform this transformational operational.

The recovery phase required is then co-ordinated by a dedicated team of highly skilled and trained nursing staff on Ward H who work in concert with compassionate Physiotherapists to slowly but surely encourage the patient to carry out a series of movements designed to strengthen the muscles and tissues of the upper leg, with the eventual aim of encouraging the ability to move from the bed to a bedside chair, and eventually progress to walking with the aid of a walking frame and finally a pair of crutches.

Throughout the recovery period required, and this will vary from patient to patient, achieved goals are recorded and form the basis of the transition to the next exercise, ensuring that the patient remains in full control of their capabilities, from which they derive immense personal pleasure and satisfaction.

The underlying principles are undoubtedly to systematically build up the patient's confidence once again and demonstrate that what was thought to be impossible, is now perfectly within their capabilities to walk again, eventually unaided.

You can expect to have to have to continue with the prescribed exercise regime once you are back in your home environment, and the progress made is entirely in your own hands, however the smiling faces of determined effort makes it all worthwhile, and soon the trauma of an operation will be a distant memory, replaced by the complete freedom from pain and full restoration of your mobility, a truly remarkable procedure.

I speak from first hand experience having witnessed my wife transformed in her ability to regain a natural ability to walk without any hint of a limp, pain free, and eager to return to a normal healthy life, thanks to the outstandingly brilliant surgical skill and equally impressive nursing care she has received whilst in hospital; truly remarkable!

As with most events in life, you only get out what you put in, and this is a maxim to remember as you continue the recovery back to normality, however the wonderful experience of a hospital stay at Ormskirk and District General Hospital will remain a precious memory of all of the dedicated staff who worked tirelessly as a co-ordinated team of Professionals to make it all possible.

No words can adequately express the deep sense of gratitude we both feel.
