"One Lovely and One Awful Reception Staff!"

I have just today changed GPs to this medical centre, and had a very mixed experience. On reception, a lovely, welcoming member of staff informed me of how to change GPs and the procedure for booking an early pregnancy appointment, as I was completely clueless. I completed the documents and returned them as soon as I could and this member of staff was taken over for the last 15 minutes of the shift by a very cold, unhelpful receptionist. This receptionist made me feel very stupid, and looked at me like an idiot as I asked for the procedure to book an appointment for an early pregnancy appointment. they mentioned absolutely nothing at all and I had to inform myself through my powers of deduction that I should ring tomorrow to book the appointment: this was too much information for them to volunteer. On the way out in the car park, the other very helpful receptionist enquired about whether I had got everything sorted, and very kindly let me know that I should provide a urine sample, which will be tested the next day as well as the rest of the booking procedure, (which I swiftly forgot as I have a terrible memory.) Thank you very much for your helpful words and advice! When I returned yet again, the unhelpful receptionist on the desk looked confused and disgusted when I asked for a urine sample pot and had no idea why (even though I had previously informed them that I was pregnant and needed to book an appointment) and informed me it couldn't be tested today: "only tomorrow before a certain time", (whenever that 'certain time' is...) I have a urine pot and no idea how I should book an appointment, but hopefully when I return tomorrow 'before the certain time', (I'll have to find that out myself!) The very accommodating member of staff will be there to provide help and assistance and not the unhelpful, condescending one! Unfortunately I cannot yet comment on the appointment itself as I haven't managed to have one yet. I hope everyone is as lovely and professional as the nice member of staff and I don't receive any terrible customer service similar to the service I received from the other receptionist!

I am so sorry you had a mixed experience and I apologise for the delay in responding. We have looked into this as best we can after a quick discussion at a team meeting. The receptionist who you feel gave you a less than perfect service has freely identified herself. She feels she that she did her best for you when working alone at the desk, but genuinely was unclear how to resolve some of the things that you needed. She apologises for being confused at a couple of points, but feels she was definitely not trying to be difficult. However, a couple of the points you raised will prove to be useful for addressing training needs for the whole team. Please contact us directly, asking for the Practice Manager, if there have been any other issues in resolving your care needs.
