I suffer from Achalsia and Barretts oesophagus which means I have to have regular Gastroscopy Procedures.
I also have a family history of colon cancer so I was advised to have a colonoscopy, a procedure I have had before on at least one occasion.
My experiences with these procedures has been traumatic until I visited the Endoscopy Unit at the Woodthorpe Hospital recently.
Their professional care and empathy was exemplary. The team made me feel comfortable and allaying my anxiety was their main concern.
A staff member attended to me initially and assisted me with the the welcome pack, taking my history and cannulating my hand for my sedation. He was professional and efficient.
Another staff member talked me through the procedure in the treatment room and constantly reassured me throughout.
The doctor was relaxed which immediately made me feel less anxious, his skill and efficiency was apparent throughout each procedure.
Another staff member was also in the procedure room, holding my hand and reassuring me throughout.
A nurse looked after me in recovery.
All of this made the experience less frightening and overall impressive. I would definitely recommend anyone who has to have these procedures to attend the Woodthorpe Endoscopy Unit.
