"Experiencing being on ‘the other side’"

About: Pilgrim Hospital / Acute Medical Unit

(as a relative),

I can’t quite believe I am having to do this but yesterday I had to experience being on ‘the other side’ as my grandad was taken ill, in the early hours.

I want to say the biggest thank you to the first responder who jumped out his car before it had even stopped, to the ambulance crew that got my grandad back for the second time and gave me and my family the chance to spend some time with him and say goodbye, to the team in a&e and the amazing staff on ITU. Sadly his brain was too badly damaged and he passed away comfortably with everyone he loved around him.

A special thank you to Jaz,Natalie and Dr Felix on ITU for your hard work and support yesterday. You made the worst situation a little more bearable.

You have all made me so incredibly proud of our NHS and to be a part of ULHT team.

Thank you again.

Dear Laurabethany92,

I wish to thank you for your positive and kind comments at such a sad time.

The staff are very sorry for your loss, but equally we appreciate you taking the time to express your thanks.

Sending condolences from all of those in ITU who cared for your granddad.
