"Television"

About: Cumberland Infirmary / Ophthalmology

My visit was fine and the treatment was very good. My complaint is about having a television in the waiting area. The volume was too loud and several people including myself were uncomfortable with the noise level because we were struggling to hear our names called out. Also because of the noise from the television people were talking to their relatives in a loud manner. I mentioned the noise of the television to a member of staff and was told it was what people asked for. That was hard to believe as several people were definitely uncomfortable.

The only seats available were right in front of the television and it was hard not to get the glare from the television. And when you eyes have been dilated it made things very uncomfortable. I think it is inappropriate to have a television in a hospital blaring away to detriment of the patients and relatives.

Regards.

Thank-you for taking the time to post comments about your recent experience at Opthalmology at the Cumberland Infirmary on the NHS Choices website.

I am pleased that you felt that the treatment was good and will feedback your comments about the noise and glare from the television to the opthalmology team to discuss. As you can imagine it can be difficult to please all of the people attending the department as people have different preferences but all feedback is appreciated and used to try and improve the experience for patients using our services.

kind regards

Georgia Wright, Head of Nursing, Patient Experience and Engagement
