I had a red swelling behind my ear, and, having suffered a middle ear infection a week earlier, and with the local pharmacist’s recommendation, asked for an immediate appointment, as we both thought it may be shingles .

I received a call an hour or so later, and was given an appointment at Fareham Community Hospital for 20 minutes later.

The Advanced Practice Nurse immediately diagnosed, and confirmed, Mastoiditis and I was prescribed strong antibiotics.

Had the diagnosis not been made so quickly, the situation may have become much more serious. I can’t praise all the staff concerned enough.
