At my current placement I have observed that patients’ safety is placed at the centre of care. Patients come into the ward under section 2 and 3, important time is placed on patient’s assessment and treatment making sure patient comfort, dignity and accountability is placed at the centre of the care planning process and admission process. Patients are also placed on personal care observation if their capability cannot be assessed to determine the persons' ability or before treatment can be administered.
At my current placement the learning environment is conducive for learning and adequate attention is placed on making sure the student is settled in properly. Adequate allocation is also in place to make sure the student is placed under regular assessment by the mentor to make sure the student progress is constantly monitored from the very first day on the ward. Effective arrangements were in place on communications and understanding what to do with assessment of safety, ward policies and progressive management of the ward, including making sure introduction was made to know the patients and other staff working on the ward.
