"Getting over the feeling of not being good enough"

About: Ealing IAPT

(as the patient),

I was counselled at Ealing IAPT (84 Uxbridge Road)  by the excellent Shole  using Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy.  I had 16 sessions spread over 5 or 6 months - and I really enjoyed and benefited from the process.

My feeling of not being good enough had roots very far back in my life and it was interesting to examine those, to discover how my feelings about myself being somehow wanting led me to seek for perfection both in myself and others - making me a very critical person sometimes.  I wasn't good enough and nobody else was either!

By having a good look at all this I have been able to gently adjust the way I think and feel not just about the past but also about the present: a forgiveness of myself for being imperfect and (I hope...gently, gently) becoming more forgiving of other people's imperfections.

Dear "April Baby"

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on Care Opinion. It sounds like you got exactly the help that you needed. Its amazing that in only 16 sessions you managed to tackle issues that as you say, had roots very far back. We are so glad that you enjoyed and benefitted from Shole's intervention. The feeling of "not goodenough" is actually quite common and people try to live and cope with it many different ways but ultimately it is an uncomfortable thought to have. We wish you luck with your new gentle approach to yourself and others and that you remember the work you did with Shole for a long time to come.

On behalf of Ealing IAPT, best wishes for the future.

Yours sincerely

Dr Louise De Haro, Clinical Psychologist

Deputy Clinical Lead Ealing IAPT
