"MRI experience"

About: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital

Took my daughter for a brain MRI. She was understandably nervous. The staff inside the actual scan department (nurses, radiologists Dr) were very friendly and kind throughout.

However, as often experienced in medical environments, the member of admin staff on the desk had no social grace whatsoever. She neither said hello or goodbye to us, merely welcomed my daughter as she walked in by saying ‘what’s ya name?’ She did not smile at us once.

I am a nurse and would hate to think that any patient coming into the department where I work would not be

greeted with a smile and a ‘Good Morning’ Patients attending for investigative procedures such as a brain MRI are likely to be feeling anxious and a bit of friendliness costs nothing.

More training needed I feel.

The department was not busy (we were the only people in the waiting room at that time) and there was talk amongst the lady on the desk and her colleagues behind about eating some cake!

Thank you for your feedback regarding your MRI scan. I would like to apologise that you and your daughters recent experience was not of the high standards we aim to provide. I have shared these comments with the clinical service manager, however, if you wish to discuss your individual circumstances further please contact our customer care team on 01256 486766 or email customercare@hhft.nhs.uk
