"Appointments waiting"

About: College Way Surgery

Some time ago, I have been quite ill, I have nearly always had good treatment. However my Doctor told me sometime ago that because of having had sepsis twice that I would get preferred treatment. Also as an ex serviceman I believed that I would get such treatment. I came to see someone a week ago and told the doctor that I have a bad cough, and a pain in my lower back. The young doctor gave me antibiotics and said if it was still there in a week, come and see your own Doctor. It is still there, and I have an appointment this afternoon however I wanted to see my own doctor but was told I cannot see him until the 9th March. This does not seem right to me.

Dear Mr Screech

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback.

I am sorry to understand that you were unable to have an appointment with your registered GP on the day that you telephoned as your GP was not in the surgery that day.

I am pleased that you were given an appointment to see an alternative GP that day.

In order to manage patient demand we stagger the release of some appointments to ensure that acute cases can access their GP as well as those requiring more regular or treatment.

When you telephoned, the next pre-bookable routine appointment with your registered GP was on the 9th of March.

As an alternative appointment was available with a GP on the same day this was offered to you given your previous history of sepsis.

We always endeavour to accommodate our patients, particularly if they have an acute condition that requires attention in the short term; unfortunately we cannot guarantee that this will be with a patient's registered GP. To ensure that patients are seen in a timely fashion we politely request that they give as much information as possible to the receptionist when contacting the surgery.

Please let me know if you would like to discuss this matter further in person and I will arrange a mutually convenient time for us to do so.

Thank You

Judith Kassapian

Practice Manager
