"Amazing care by all involved in my..."

About: South Warwickshire University NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you to all the wonderful doctors and nurses who cared for me before, during and after my recent surgery. I was scared of the anaesthetic if it was to be a general and also of any possible side effects of the operation - vaginal hysterectomy and anterior repair and right sacrospinous fixation. However, the wonderful speciality doctor anaesthetics spent time with me before my operation to explain my options with such patience and compassion and even told me I didn't have to make a final decision as to the anaesthetic I'd prefer until I was brought to the operating theatre, which gave me time to talk it through with my daughter. Similarly, the surgeon about to perform my operation then spent time with me, explaining the procedure, with diagrams, and again offering me possible options. This whole experience prior to my surgery made me feel that I was more in control of my body, which I found extremely reassuring. As for the surgery itself, well I cannot believe how calm and relaxed I was made to feel and totally reassured that should I feel any discomfort at any time, having opted for a spinal block rather than a general anaesthetic, the anaesthetist would still be able to administer a general anaesthetic. In the event this was not necessary. I felt in very safe hands and simply drifted in and out of sleep during the fairly lengthy operation, aware of being asked occasionally if I was ok. The relief once it was over, with so little discomfort, was amazing and whilst in recovery I felt so well and was simply looking forward to a cup of tea and something to eat. My aftercare on Beaumont Ward was fantastic also. The nursing staff, who were incredibly busy, nevertheless made me feel that my care mattered to them and I received nothing but kindness and consideration throughout my overnight stay. The surgeon was also amazingly attentive, visiting later on the day of my surgery and the next morning and spent time explaining to me exactly what he had done and how I needed to care for myself during the next 4months. The nurses regularly monitored my progress once my catheter and packing had been removed and I was declared fit for discharge the following afternoon.

This was a very positive experience for me and I have continued to remain unbelievably fit and well and this is all down to the wonderful overall care I received in Warwick Hospital. Thank you so much to all concerned. You really do perform wonderful work for which I am immensely grateful.
