Visited urgent care center with my 9 year old son who had been experiencing severe abdominal pain for a week. Arrived 12.45. Initial triage nurse was rude. We waited 4 hours to see a Dr while my son writhed in pain. The Dr was very sympathetic to my son's condition and referred us to children's A&E for a review by the surgeons. The staff in paediatrics were initially efficient in taking obs and inserting a canula and told me to keep my son nil by mouth. After 5 hours he was allowed to eat (it was now 9.30 at night) then waited another hour for the surgeons. In total we waited 6 hours for a surgeon to review him and in 5 minutes they were able to say it was not a surgical issue. This wait time for a child at this time of day is not acceptable. The nurses were also becoming concerned and trying to follow up with the site manager. After being dismissed by the surgeons we had to stay another 3 hours but at least during this time he was seen and thoroughly assessed by 2 lovely pediatricians who have finally given us some answers. I am very concerned about this response time for a child and expect this to be followed up. By the time we were seen it was suggested we may need an ultrasound not available at night. I was informed I would be called the following morning to arrange one. I will wait and see. Not impressed. Over 12 hours with a sick child who was exhausted by the end.
