"Inpatient and Outpatient"

About: Heartlands Hospital / General surgery

After many years of using this hospital for various reasons including treatment for chronic illness, having children here and also having to say goodbye to family members at Heartlands.

I recently had surgery at heartlands and can honestly say the care I received was fantastic with the exception of staff stretched to the limit on ward 12.

The surgical team did everything possible to ensure a good recovery.

Nearly five hours I waited for discharge( thankfully this was on the ward and knowing from previous inpatient stays, knew it would be a long wait) and still went home without my medication (collected the next day).

Since leaving hospital there seems to be an issue with getting the post op appointment that I'm supposed to have. Fortunately the medical gastro /IBD team that look after me, are their usual brilliant selves and have seen me in clinic and also arranged for further investigation due to problems after surgery.

The hospital obviously have the same problems as any other hospitals in the NHS, including needs more funding for updating the buildings and more staff.

I could never fault the general care I have received taking into account the problems the NHS have.

Dear Patient,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding your care and treatment at Heartlands Hospital.

I am sorry that you had a delay in being discharged from the ward following your surgery, that you did not receive your medication to take home and that you experienced problems in obtaining a follow up appointment.

I am pleased however, that the Gastro/IBD team were able to arrange to have you seen in clinic and also arrange further investigations to be undertaken and that the care you received was fantastic.

I will forward your posting to the medical and nursing senior management teams, so they are aware of your experience and I do hope you are recovering well, following your procedure.

I will ask that your posting is also shared with the staff.

Once again, thank you for your posting.

All patient feedback is important to us, whether it is negative or positive, as this helps the Trust to improve our services and make changes where necessary.

We continually strive to improve our service for all patient’s and visitors.

Best wishes

Miss J. Langham

Patient Services Officer
