"Professional fast friendly care"

About: Solihull Hospital

I was referred by my GP to the Acute medical unit in Solihull hospital with a substantially swollen leg. A lady porter with wheelchair saw us in the corridor as we entered and wheeled me into the Acute Unit. I was immediately recorded there and blood tests etc taken. I was seen by a doctor and after a while taken by wheel chair to the Ambulatory emergency unit where we were treated very well. I was booked in for a dvt scan told when that would be. Blood tests returned and I was seen by a doctor. I was taken by wheel chair for the scan which was done within a short space of time and wheeled back to the unit. The results of the scan were advised to me by the doctor as soon as available. A prescription was given and we returned home. There was a Sister in the AEU who pulled things together kept everyone informed about their particular case and a male porter who was available to take patients in wheelchairs and provide drinks in needed. I was so annoyed at reports that morning about the NHS on the BBC who only seem to want to headline 'bad news'. The service and attention that I and the other patients were given was exemplary. All the staff were engaging and friendly and carried out their job professionally. I cannot speak more highly about them.

Dear Mr Howe,

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments, following your recent attendance to the Acute Medical Unit at Solihull Hospital.

I am pleased that you were well cared for and treated within a timely manner and that the service and attention you received you feel was exemplary.

Unfortunately the NHS does receive ‘bad press’ and people are not always as quick to compliment the staff, who really do work extremely hard in such a busy and demanding environment.

It will be my pleasure to forward your posting to the senior management team for the Unit and I will ask that your posting is shared with the staff.

No doubt the staff will be delighted to read your positive comments.

I do hope you are feeling much better following your attendance and once again thank you for taking the time to provide your comments, as all patient feedback is important to us.

Best wishes

Miss J. Langham

Patient Services Officer
