I attended RBH's Sandbourne Unit as a day surgery patient recently for a hernia repair. I'm in my sixties and this was my first visit to any hospital as a patient since birth. Because of this I was slightly apprehensive, especially concerning the need to have a general anaesthetic.
There were only four patients being operated on. Everything was very relaxed and friendly. I felt I was treated with complete respect, compassion and understanding by all the staff. Any anxiety I had dissipated quickly and I consider the experience to have exceeded my expectations in every respect. No private healthcare could have bettered the treatment I received and I am recovering quickly.
It is also notable that the operation was carried out within just three weeks of seeing the consultant (Mr Mallick), even though a hernia repair cannot be considered a high priority compared with other surgery.
It would not be appropriate to single out any one member of staff for praise, as the entire team performed to the highest standard.
"The entire team performed to the highest standard"
