"Services after cataract operations"

About: Princess Royal University Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

I had a cataract operation on my left eye, carried out very well indeed by a very pleasant lady surgeon. My eyesight has greatly improved and I am well able to drive, but I am having difficulty in getting official medical approval to do so.

I am still awaiting an appointment for a check inspection which is supposed to take place in about 2 weeks time. I very much want to have an eye test quickly so that I  can continue to drive because my family and church are four miles away and I do not want to keep asking for lifts when I know I am well fit to drive.

I phoned to try to find the name of my surgeon or someone who could help, and was told by the clerk that they were very busy and probably could not do it that day but might ring tomorrow. I felt rebuffed and concerned that they could not open a register on their computer that would tell them immediately the name of my surgeon. I am desperately wanting to drive and restore my normal social contacts, but am being delayed by administrative bureaucracy from getting the official medical approval.
