We visted with our 12 week old baby who had an injury to her mouth preventing her from feeding. We arrived around 10pm and she was not seen by a Dr until after 3am. I understand the service is busy but I feel minor injuries were seen before her. I have worked in A&E departments in other areas of Scotland as a nurse and it has always been the case that babies of such a young age are seen by a Dr as a priority as they can become unwell so quickly.
My daughter had been unable to take any feeds from 12 noon. She was then only seen because I spoke to an auxilliary nurse and explained my concern as there were no trained staff to be seen at that time. I was told that the minor injuries I heard coming though and being seen before my daughter had arrived before us.
If it had been myself with the injury I would have understood this but as it was my 12 week old baby I find this appalling. Thankfully after I had spoken to her she went and asked the Dr to see my baby next as she was so young but I do wonder how long it would've taken if I hadn't spoken up and if there are other parents being put into the same situation who don't feel able to speak up.
