"A real jewel in the crown of the NHS"

About: Dr D Dawes Practice

I'd not been one for visiting the doctor's so when it came time to register when I moved near Ashby De-La-Zouch I just picked one at random which turned out to be near to the one my wife and children had registered at but as luck would have it not the same one.

Over the years I have taken my children to their doctors and watched in horror as their surgery became more and more like a factory with receptionists stressing about minutes rather than the welfare of their patients which over time became the pattern with the doctors and the other nursing staff in the building - Not a good place to work and terrible to visit as a patient.

Anyway, I digress.

Over the past few years as I've got older and heading towards 50 I have started to suffer with ill health and have turned more and more to my doctors for support.

Each time the service has been second to none.

The receptionists are polite, efficient and very accommodating in finding appointments or alternative solutions to get access to a GP.

When I have been to see either of the GP's I am always struck by how they make time to see you and to get to the bottom of your medical issues - They don't just give you you a pat on the back and a prescription for antibiotics.

From personal experience I am extremely happy with the first class service and support they have given me and continue to do so going forward.

If it was not for their determination, hard work and shear tenacity I would never have known that I was suffering from terminal lung cancer and as such would not have had the opportunity to make the most of the time I have remaining with my friends and family

For months they supported me through test after test working on solving initially a constant stomach bug which rendered me house bound.

Having found the bug responsible they set about curing it and within a week or so I started to feel much better.

However, at the insistence of my doctor I also went for a scan just to be on the safe side.

Unfortunately this unearthed stage 4 small cell lung cancer which has devastated my world and the ones of my loved ones around me.

My doctor has been the most supportive, straight talking, professional and genuine person I have come into contact with during this whole experience.

He is extremely consistent in his approach, making time where needed, be it for a bad back or something far more serious he always makes the time to get to the truth leaving me feeling that I have been lucky enough to see a true health care professional and not an accountant masquerading as a doctor.

Surely my well being and subsequent treatment and recovery is the aim of going to see a doctor?

Anyway, to wrap up I cannot recommend highly enough this gem of a doctors practice hidden away in the side streets of Ashby De La Zouch.

If you like me want to treated by professionals who make time and most importantly get the right results I suggest you register at Dr Dawes surgery, you'll kick yourself for waiting so long.
