"Trying to get help for my child"

About: Market Surgery

(as a parent/guardian),

Contacted the surgery to arrange an urgent appointment for my child who was having suicidal thoughts.   Despite my concerns, the earliest appointment I was offered was for one week later with advice to ring daily to see if there had been any cancellations.   No offer of a call back from the GP or sign-posting to other support services.

I had to contact the surgery a second time the same day because I was struggling to contact any other support services and be very abrupt, unfortunately, with another receptionist who clearly knew what they were doing and understood my situation, they then arranged for a GP to call me back that day.

Dear Patient

I would kindly request that you contact me personally so that I can discuss this matter further.

When instances of suicidal intention are reported to us, our initial advice is to contact the specialist Crisis Team for support and this number will be provided by our reception team. Failing this option, suicide is a 'Red Flag' warning and will always be put on our triage list for a doctor to call back as soon as possible.

I would therefore appreciate if we could discuss your feedback further should we need to review any staff training in such circumstances.

Kind Regards
