"my potential cardiac situation"

About: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital / Accident and emergency

in November of 2017 i suffered a very bad episode of tachycardia and hypertension. being that this was my first episode it was pretty scary. i was advised by the duty doctor at my GP surgery to go to A&E for an ECG to be on the safe side. being that it was a sunday, i called the reception and asked them what their wait times were. i got there to find that there were only about 2-3 people in the waiting room. i had probably sat for a few minutes before i was taken into the treatment area. from that moment on the staff cared. The doctor was extremely attentive, maintained eye contact at all times and just listened to everything i said. the nurses and i had a good moan about how cold it was outside while they were hooking me up to relevant machines. i had several ecg's, a chest x-ray, blood work and a urine test. i knew what they were testing for and why they were doing it because the doctor told me. everything, thankfully, came back negative but the fear that i had, because of the attitudes of the staff, dissipated very quickly. i felt i was where i needed to be and it was a pleasure to be around all of them.

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback regarding our emergency department. I am always pleased to read lovely, heartfelt comments, like yours, on the care and treatment patients have received. I have shared your kind words with the team and clinical leader for the department, who I am sure, will delighted and greatly encouraged by them.

Alex Whitfield, Chief Executive
