Our experience in the delivery process of this hospital was an absolute disaster. We were at least three hours late to be transferred to the birth ward from ward 21. As a result, we were given epidural way too late, and had to accept forcep to assist the delivery. Here are some facts about our disastrous experience in this place:
1) At least three hour's delay to be transferred to the birth ward on the delivery day, which I suspect as the root reason for everything.
2) Ward 22 marked as dilated 4cm, while they orally discussed the opening being 6cm. This later on directly led to using epidural too late. When applying epidural, labour ward didn't check again. They orally discussed that it might be too late, but they didn't reexamine.
3) Our baby had to be delivered using forceps. Our baby didn't pass the hearing screening.
4) We got infection after the delivery. Got referred to come back for antibiotics but had to wait for well over 2 hours to see a doctor.
5) The midwife who visited us didn't check thoroughly. She didn't even check the infection on the visit. The infection was later on identified by a family member and taken to hospital.
Maybe the hospital was overstretched because of NHS budget. Or maybe all NHS hospitals are like this. Either way, we feel let down by this service...
