What I liked
My husband was transfered to Kettering, via A&E after being seen by our local GP. He was diagnosed with suspected pneumonia and swine flu.
The assessment nurse was very disinterested and not a lot of help so immediately I though "Oh here we go, this is going to be awful" After that he was seen really quickly and taken into a private side room which I thought was very good and was exceptionally clean.
The staff were fantastic and he had blood tests and chest x-rays done within an hour of arriving. The nurses frequently checked on him and we were regularly updated as to his treatment and what would be happening next. The ward he was placed on was incredibly clean and the nursing staff were very helpful. I was always able to find the nurse looking after him and she was very approachable and knowledgeable about what would be happening with his treatment. The health care assistants who bought him water etc were lovely and very helpful.
So many people are quick to criticise the hospitals, yes there are aspects that are not great and some of the nursing staff and doctors attitudes to patients leave a lot to be desired but this is not indicative of everyone who works for the NHS. They do a very difficult job with very little resources and on this occasion I would like to thank Kettering Hospital for all their help in getting my husband well again.
What could be improved
Attitude of the assessment nurse could have been a little better but hardly a major problem
