"Excellent treatment"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Clinical assessment unit General practices in Forth Valley

(as a relative),

My husband took ill just after New Year with a condition he has previously suffered from.   It's a horrible illness that leaves him unable to keep food and sometimes fluids down. He was previously reliant on a feeding tube to help him recover whilst awaiting his medication to work, (unfortunately, the meds take weeks to kick in).

After suffering on for 14 days and becoming increasingly unwell, the GP, a Dr Cameron from Carronbank Medical Centre sent him into the Clinical Assessment Unit for help recently.   This was the first part of the excellent treatment, a GP that was attentive, caring and fully understanding of how my husband was feeling, and fully proactive in contacting FVRH to speak to the Gastric Consultant on call (who's name I don't know, sorry). Decision was made to go in, the only unfortunate experience was the lengthy wait in CAU when we arrived, not to be helped though as the nurses and Dr's were run off their feet as the place was extremely busy.

The second part of his excellent care was in the form of a nightshift Doctor who checked him over, a Dr Zach. He was fantastic, fabulous manner, cheery and answered our questions without hesitation. He admitted my husband there and then and made the decision to fully hydrate him overnight. By this point we were expecting a lengthy admission to the Gastric Ward for tests and another feeding tube to be inserted, (my husband is only in his early 40's so not ideal!), but the next day the daytime Doctors tried him on a different medication which miraculously worked, by mid evening on the day after admission my husband could eat normally without vomiting. The speed at which the staff in CAU managed to hydrate and fully replenish my husband, whilst remedicating him onto an effective drug, was astonishing, especially considering how busy they were. He has since been discharged home and has nothing but praise for all the staff involved in his care. A huge thank you from both of us, with a special mention to Jodie, one of the most cheery, helpful and loveliest nurses I've met, you were a wee star xx
