"Two Admissions one week apart to A& E"

About: Addenbrooke's Hospital / Accident and emergency

I was taken to A&E after going through the 111 with severe asthma exacerbated by a respiratory infection.

Ambulance crew were exceptional.

Friendly, calm approachable and thorough.

Seen by Dr soon after admission blood tests, chest x -ray and ECG all carried out swiftly.

Then I was left in a cubicles for 2+ hours.

I could see Nursing staff outside but had to wave my hands for help to go to the toilet and get a drink.

On the first admission the Dr explained my asthma was much worse but nothing extraordinary showing on X-ray or bloods.

Advised to contact GP the next day.

He was factual and also answered my questions.

I was discharged at 2am and 5am by taxi.

The second admission followed as above except I had more contact with nurses and they made me a much needed coffee.

I concluded that the medical care I received was very good on both occasions.

Being left for extended periods with no one checking or having access to a drink or toilet was not so good. In conclusion, thank you for doing an exceptional job under a lot of pressure on two busy Saturday nights.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We hope you are recovering well from your emergency admissions. We are pleased to hear that staff communicated well with you and made your admission as comfortable as possible on your second visit to the emergency department, but that this did not happen with the nursing staff on your initial visit. If you would like us to investigate this further please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on Tel: 01223 216756.
